Lisa Castagner swapped “Break” (Photograph on Aluminum, 50cm x 120cm) for Liv’s “Twitter Portrait No 1”
Lisa Castagner is a photographer and video-maker living and working in London.
Break (2007) was part of a process that began with a period of research into specific environments, leading to encounters and conversations with local women about their experience of life and work. These women were often cast in my photographs, becoming part of the carefully orchestrated mise en scene. The scenarios created lie somewhere between mundane reality and heightened artifice, drawing out the tensions between individual female desire and prescriptive social relations, raising afresh the question of what it means to be a woman living in our time. This work was included in a survey book, ‘In Our World: New Photography in Britain’.
